We’ve all seen a messy gym or two in our time. There is nothing worse than having to step over equipment laying on the floor or not being able to locate what you’re looking for because it’s been placed in the wrong location. Not to mention it can be a health hazard and doesn’t give a very good first impression when attracting new members.
The objective of cleaning is not just to clean, but to feel happiness working within that environment. We’ve compiled our top 8 tips for keeping your gym clean and tidy:
1. Wipe and Clean Your Equipment Daily
This should be a no brainer. Just because a gym looks spotless doesn’t mean that it is. A build-up of dirt, sweat and germs can quickly deteriorate the padding and surfaces of machinery. Make sure you select cleaning spray and wipes that aren’t corrosive on metal – your best bet is to use a PH neutral detergent and wipe with a dry cloth.
2. Keep Equipment Off The Floor With Wall Mounted Solutions
Maximise valuable floor space and keep your walk ways open with wall mounted storage solutions. Check out our extensive range of wall mounted storage systems so that even the smallest wall space can be turned into a safe and secure home for your barbells, weight plates, skipping ropes, rollers and more.
3. When In Doubt Go Vertical
If you’re lacking wall space or unable to mount storage to your walls, take advantage of your vertical space and choose freestanding storage options that go up. Keep in mind that heavy equipment must always be stored at the lowest point and light equipment overhead.
4. Utilise Your Rigs and Cages
Where possible, utilise existing rig uprights to help you to create efficient storage solutions for all of your gym and exercise equipment. Rig storage is a convenient way to maximise your floor and wall space for all types of facilities.
5. Store Rig Accessories In Storage Channels
A common mistake we see a lot of gyms make is not investing in storage for rig accessories which often sees members lying them on the floor or against a wall when not in use. Multi-purpose storage channels are a versatile solution to get the most bang for your buck to provide a dedicated home for all of your rig accessories including J-Hooks, Dip Bars, Spotter Arms, Band Pegs and Rails, Removable Pull Up Bars and more. Check out our range of specialty storage.
6. Buy The Correct Shelf Style
When building your own storage system or choosing a pre built pack, keep in mind the equipment your wanting to store. Whilst a flat shelf may be a cheaper option, your bumper plates will stay upright and will not roll around in a bumper shelf. Similarly, dumbbells are much more easier to un-rack and re-rack in an angle shelf.
7. Throw Out The Bucket and Invest In A Quality Chalk Bowl
Don’t even chalk to us about buckets…Chalk buckets are cheap but are a recipe for disaster. To avoid members accidently knocking over the designated chalk bucket on the floor and you having to clean up after their spill we recommend investing in a quality chalk bowl.
8. Store Ropes and Bands Vertically To Avoid Them Tangling
Most people want to get in and out of the gym as fast as they can. No one has time to spend trying to de-tangle ropes or bands. Wall or rig mounted storage pegs are a great way to store these items vertically to avoid disgruntled members.
