Western Sydney Wanderers FC, Elite Sports Club Gym Fitout
Western Sydney Wanderers Football Club are Hyundai A-League competitors and the first Australian soccer club to take out the prestigious Asian Champions League in 2014. The club have invested in a game-changing centre to house their elite men's, women's and academy teams. The 11-hectare development will be the envy of all football codes, with few sporting clubs able to boast a facility of this magnitude.
While the Wanderers' home ground is Bankwest Stadium, the club's office and training facilities are located at Blacktown International Sportspark in Rooty Hill NSW. The Wanderers Centre of Football will be one of the biggest club sports facilities in the country. Housing multiple football fields, the site also features a high performance centre complete with a state-of-the-art gym, physiotherapy and recovery rooms, offices and media centre.
The Wanderers' strength and conditioning team came to AlphaFit looking for consultation on how to best fit out their new space. Being able to train a full squad of 29 players in the gym at once, specifically catering to each athlete's specific needs, was paramount to the design and planning stage. With an open area of 24m x 12m to work with, the key to a successful solution was to keep the space as open as possible.
AlphaFit created a custom solution including two Double Half Cages with storage at one end of the facility, with red rig attachments including Origin J-Hooks, Spotter Arms and Jammer Arms. A selection of specialty barbells, Endure Bumpers and other weightlifting accessories round out this zone. Strength pieces such as Pull Benches, GHDs and PU Dumbbells run down the sides of the room while the centre remains as a free and flexible open area. Conditioning equipment including Concept2 Rowers, Soft Blocks, Medicine Balls and other mixed implements were selected to complement the cardio section of the gym.
Another key request of the S&C coaches was for a cable machine that was compact and durable. The AlphaFit Cable Cage was the best possible option for their requirements, providing a single space-saving cable unit with two additional squatting, benching and chin up stations.
Being able to offer the Wanderers realistic renders of the space throughout the consultation process enabled the team to easily visualise and fine tune the layout and equipment list. This really helped in ensuring all needs were met to run their squad through strength and conditioning sessions now and in the future.
TESTIMONIAL
"The AlphaFit equipment is really robust equipment. It’s ideal for the usage we have, particularly the volume of usage on a daily basis with the players here, and the gear can take the hard work that we’re putting it through.
The AlphaFit Cable Cage has been a great addition to our gym so far this season. We’ve managed to incorporate it into both core, upper body and lower body exercises as well as our rehab work and we’re finding great benefits with it so far. They’re quite good as a multi-purpose tool. We’ve hooked the Cable Cages up with various different devices for multiple uses and it’s augmenting all of our practises on a daily basis - both on rehab and strength and conditioning sides of things.
The AlphaFit equipment works well in this sort of establishment in the sense that you’ve got constant use, from highly athletic players on a regular basis. For the amount of turnover you’re getting through this equipment, it’ll definitely stand up to the wear and tear we’ll bring to it."
